PHS Students Empathy Project

On November 1, 2024, six PHS 10th graders, along with four Blair High School students, led a 90-minute professional development session for history teachers from Muir, PHS, CIS, and Rose City. The session was part of PUSD and PEF’s Building Empathy project. During a breakout session, students Nathaniel Fulford, Giselle Leyva, Jessica Lewis, Leo Luster, Alessandro Marroquin, and Azucena Valadez Paez answered questions and discussed their work.The students' presentations were described by teachers as insightful, impactful, and engaging.California Humanities, which helps fund the project, highlighted reflections, poems, and essays by PHS and Blair students in a blog post. KyleMichaelsen headshot

Kyle Michaelsen, an educator since 2006 at Pasadena High School, is passionate about teaching AP European History and Introduction to Sustainable Agriculture. Inspired by the diverse student body and committed faculty, he encourages students to make historical connections, fostering an understanding that present decisions impact the future, and actively works towards a more sustainable lifestyle to address environmental challenges.

Why Pasadena High School?

Since 1891, Pasadena High School provides students with a firm, wide-ranging academic foundation on which to build a successful, college-bound future.

App Academy

As you learn to code, you’ll create your own websites, games, applications, and more. Coding gives you the chance to express yourself and build creative, meaningful projects.

Creative Arts, Media, and Design (CAMAD)

Through a combination of academic courses, visual arts and design projects, students obtain real-world skills and hands on experience to pursue an Art and Design career or attend an Art and Design college.

 

Law and Public Service (LPS)

A four-year college preparatory program specifically designed for students with interest in legal, government or public service careers. A pillar of LPS is our Teen Courtroom. 

 

Math Academy

The goal is to develop middle-school and high-school students with the passion, skills and insight to excel in the honors math and science programs at the most elite universities in the world.

 

Bulldog Athletics

We offer 39 different boys and girls sports teams. Sports include: baseball, basketball, cheer, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball, water polo. 

 

Mandarin Language Program

An opportunity to engage in consistent practice of the language every day in oral and written form. Courses offered include Mandarin 1 - 3, AP Chinese Language and Culture and Chinese Business and Cinema.
