College and Career Center

The College and Career Center is located in G102 and supports our students on their path toward their future. We are here for general information about colleges and/or career pathways our students may take. We are ready to support students and parents with any questions or concerns that may appear with their FAFSA or CA Dream Act applications or other college financial aid forms. Work permits and service learning hours are processed through the CCC.

Work Permits

Work permits are issued through the College and Career Center. Please pick up an Intent to Employ Form from G102 when the student has already been hired for a specific position. The student must have a 2.0 or higher GPA and have good school attendance to be issued a work permit. Employers sometimes provide the center with job opportunities, so please listen to announcements or check in with the advisor for information.

Academies

As your College and Career Center, we are also your academy support. We are here to support our academies in any way possible and are responsible for tracking work-based learning (WBL) hours for our students. Any questions about the academies at this high school and throughout our district can be answered by the College and Career Advisor.

Work-Based Learning Hours

Work-based learning is an educational strategy that links school-based instruction with work-focused experiences with benefits and value beyond school. It uses workplace, employer, or community resources to engage high school students and intentionally promote learning and access to future educational and career opportunities. Work-based learning can include internships, apprenticeships, workplace simulations, student-led enterprises, and other opportunities in the business or nonprofit arena. Students are required 40 WBL hours for graduation, and students in academies need 200 WBL hours to receive their medallion.

Options for Community Service include but are not limited to the following:

• Humane Society
• Museums
• Police Station
• Senior Citizen Homes
• Religious Institutions (Church, Mosque, Synagogue, Temple)
• Habitat for Humanity
• Fire Station
• Parks/Recreation Center
• Hospitals

• Babysitting or working at home
• Activities that solicit funds )ex. in a marathon to raise money for cancer research, a student may get credit for settiong u[, or handing out water bottles, but not for asking for donations or running).
• Working for a family-based business without pay
• Club activities unless working on school or community change
